New Year, New Places to go – The best places to travel in 2019

2019 has well and truly begun and with Christmas over, the January blues have begun to set in. Tracey Strand at Tailor and Made wants to help you plan the best holiday for this year.

The New Year is a time to look forward and what better way than to plan your 2019 holiday. With so many destinations to choose from where do you start?

How to start planning?

Always begin by deciding what time of year you are wanting to travel, this will then determine where it is best to go,  deciding how long you wish to be away for will influence how far you wish to travel.

The next important thing is to look at how you enjoy spending your time when on holiday. Are you a ‘flop n drop’ person looking at relaxing on a beach, a person who likes adventure, activities or possibly you enjoy wildlife and photography? There are so many destinations that allow you to combine your preferences, even for those of us whose travel companions like different things.

How to pick the perfect destination?

Tracey has put together a list of the best destinations, depending on the time of year, so you can enjoy your break no matter when it is. Here Tracey shares her travel calendar with just a few ideas of where to go to each month:-

January – It’s time to relax! Why not try  Miami South Beach then take a cruise to the Caribbean to soak up those sun rays and get rid of the January Blues.

February –  Looking for romance on Valentines Day, there’s only one place to visit, Paris. The city of love in low season means that you don’t have to queue for the museums too.

March – It’s the start of the party season with the Mardi Gras in New Orleans or St Patrick’s Day in Ireland.

April – It’s spring in Europe and a visit to Keukenhof, Europe’s largest garden in the Netherlands will give you the greenery you want to see; or a little further afield it’s cherry blossom time in Japan.

May –  The perfect time for a walk, and the island of Crete has mountains, coastline and gorges with levels of walking for most abilities.

June – This year the total eclipse is in Chile, or as the temperature is rising, then a trip to Svalbard in Scandanavia is worth the effort as it’s bear watching season.

July – The heat is on, sun worshippers head to the Mediterranean and River Cruising is in full swing through Europe.

August – Want to try a Staycation? Edinburgh comes alive with the Festival and Military Tattoo, or if you want a tropical escape, Madagascar is the perfect place to see the exotic nature come to life. For the wildlife enthusiast it is the perfect time to see the exotic nature of Madagascar come alive.

September – The children are back at school, the Mediterranean is still lovely so why not try Sicily for its culture and Corsica for its rugged beauty.

October – Enjoy a beer in Munich at the Oktoberfest, or look at going south of the Equator as Spring is arriving.

November – This is the time to visit Asia, lantern festivals in Thailand, Geisha dancing in Kyoto or trekking in northern Vietnam.

December – It’s Christmas Market time throughout Europe, the beginning of the ski season and if you have children or grandchildren, why not visit Lapland so that they can deliver their present list by hand?

It’s a big world out there and it is all there for the exploring.
