Give the gift of travel this Mother’s Day

Tracey Strand from Tailor and Made Travel shares some alternative ideas to inspire some adventures, experiences and travel this Mother’s Day

As with any national holiday, Mother’s Day involves the giving of gifts and cards to show Mum how much she’s valued and appreciated. Traditionally Mother’s Day gifts included flowers and a Simnel cake. The flowers were picked by the workers on the way home from work for a day with their mum; they’d pick wild flowers from the country lanes. It is still a tradition today to spoil mum with a stunning colourful bouquet of flowers, as well as more modern gifts such as a meal out, perfume, clothes or jewellery.

My daughter likes to buy ‘experiences’ rather than a traditional gift and with Mother’s Day fast approaching I was considering alternatives.

Starting with flowers, my favourite being the tulip, I remember many years ago visiting the tulip fields in the Netherlands. Keukenhof Park is known as the ‘Greatest Flower Show on Earth’ where the various themed gardens spill over in a riot of colour. There are coach holidays from various points in East Anglia that will take you to the Dutch Bulbfields and Amsterdam from as little as £339 per person for 4 days.

Who does not love chocolate? My favourite is dark with a high cocoa content and maybe a bit spicy with a drop of chilli !! Belgian chocolate is fabulous and Brussels has the Chocolate Workshop where not only do you sample chocolate you also get to make your own. Easy to get to by Eurostar and a package including the rail and hotel for tow nights start at £170 per person.

Take time out of the stresses and strains of life with a relaxing spa break. Give Mum the ultimate pampering experience either in a country spa hotel for total relaxation or in the heart of a vibrant city so she can indulge in a spot of shopping too. With prices in Chester starting at £94 per person including one night in a hotel, breakfast and one spa treatment what is there not to love.

If you cannot decide what to buy then Tailor and Made Travel offer a gift voucher service. Purchase a gift voucher from £10 and they are valid for any travel service booked with Tailor and Made Travel for up to two years.

Not long to wait to see what my daughter spoils me with this year but as long as she joins me it does not really matter.
