Handelsbanken to open new offices in Ipswich’s iconic The Maltings

Penn Commercial has completed the successful letting of three floors of Grade A, self-contained character offices at The Kiln, The Maltings, Princes Street, Ipswich to Handelsbanken’s local Ipswich-based branch, acting on behalf of Pertwee Estates, on a 10-year lease. Handelsbanken will be relocating from its current offices in Grafton House in due course.

The Kiln is a stylish, refurbished suite of 276.6 sq m (2,977 sq ft), with open staircases and direct access onto the central atrium, and stunning views over the river.

The warehouse-style office space at The Maltings features exposed brick walls, beams and original columns, and the refurbishment was recognised with an ‘Award of Distinction’ by the Ipswich Society.

Handelsbanken is a local relationship bank, ‘built on satisfied customers, financial strength and sustainable values’. The bank operates an extensive network of branches across Great Britain, with each branch rooted in their local communities, supporting individuals and businesses with their personal and corporate banking, as well as wealth management services, all with a truly bespoke service.

Robin Cousins, Associate at Penn Commercial, said:

“The relocation of Handelsbanken is an encouraging and ambitious move, which really adds to the mix of high-quality tenants in such a prominent building in our town centre.

“Transactions such as this serve to show that there is still a market for inspirational, well-curated office space in the post-COVID world.”

Martin Fish, Branch Manager at Handelsbanken’s Ipswich branch, commented:

“We are delighted to have secured this fantastic new office space. This is a significant investment, which will house a much larger Handelsbanken team on one premium site, allowing us to better serve our customer base.

“We were attracted by the quality and sustainable aspects of The Maltings and the location, which is close to the railway station and has excellent parking options. We look forward to being able to welcome customers to our new premises in due course.”

The iconic 200-year-old Grade II-Listed Maltings building, which was formerly the town’s Hollywood nightclub, underwent a multi-million-Pound conversion to premium business premises, and opened its doors in July 2019.

Situated in Ipswich’s growing commercial district, close to the rail station, The Maltings has been entirely rebuilt to create an exciting place to work, designed to appeal to a variety of different occupiers in a collaborative, inspiring environment.

The building is now home to a number of insurance companies, a planning consultant, Network Rail and a financial services company.
