Following on from achieving ‘Pub Chef of the Year’ Craft Guild of Chef Awards 2019 The Unruly Pig is set to win further acclaim in the Great British Pub awards 2019.
Nominated as one of the six national shortlisted finalists in both ‘Best Chef’ and ‘Best Wine’ categories having previously won ‘Best Pub in Suffolk’ 2016/17. The Unruly Pig is certainly putting Suffolk on the map!
“It’s a privilege and honour to have reached the final. The unruly Pig is going from strength to strength and it’s all down to Dave and our amazing team.” Commented owner Brendan Padfield.
It was only four years ago that The Unruly Pig in Bromeswell Woodbridge was still in a bit of a very sorry state. It was being rebuilt after suffering from a catastrophic fire that had destroyed over 40 % of the building and resulted in over six months closure. At the time, owner Brendan Padfield wondered if he ”would ever have the energy to rise from the ashes”. The business had only been open twelve weeks when tragedy struck.
Since reopening, the pub has won a multitude of awards the latest being an accolade for Head Chef Dave Wall who was recently named as Britain’s ‘Best Pub Restaurant Chef’ by the Craft Guild of Chefs.
“It’s been such a rollercoaster since we re-opened but I now feel so proud of what Head Chef, Dave Wall and the whole Unruly team have achieved – I just sit back and the kitchen and front of house teams do all the hard yards!” said Brendan Padfield.
Before joining The Unruly Pig, Head Chef Dave Wall worked at London’s Bibendum restaurant, for Gordon Ramsey at Claridges and The Boxwood Cafe and latterly at Le Talbooth in Dedham.
Brendan Padfield proudly commented that “Dave is such a remarkable talent and has stuck with me through very difficult times after the fire and that is something I will never forget. I am very lucky to work with such a brilliant Chef”.
The Great British Pub Awards 2019 are being held at an awards ceremony in London on 5 September 2019.
