University of Suffolk – a Founding Partner of the Institute of Event Management

The Institute of Event Management have announced Suffolk Business School at the University of Suffolk as their founding partner.

The Institute was established to provide an opportunity for individuals who already work or wish to work in the Events Sector to gain professional recognition, and to enhance their profile, skills and knowledge. It provides a route to professional recognition, to champion and develop the role of event professionals and raise awareness worldwide and will, in the near future, be accrediting qualifications based on professional standards.

Established as a transformational University, the University of Suffolk absorbs the best of UK university traditions and aligning them with a twenty first century audience and a modern world of employment and entrepreneurship.  Suffolk Business School is a new and innovative Business School based at the heart of one of the UK’s fastest growing economies in Ipswich.

Working with the business community, it is committed to developing the talent and entrepreneurial effectiveness of all its learners, so they graduate from the University with the right skills and knowledge to make a positive impact on society. The BA (Hons) Event / Tourism / Marketing Management programmes work extensively with the event industry with students needing to carry out industry placements as part of these courses.

The Pro Vice-Chancellor for Business and Entrepreneurship, Professor Gurpreet Jagpal, is developing a five-year strategic plan built on stronger and deeper links with business and professional bodies, creating an environment for students to learn, grow and enhance their employability. Industry engagement will be at the core of what the School does, with business representatives involved in programme development and delivery.

Professor Jagpal said, “The partnership with the Institute of Event Management further strengthens the Suffolk Business School’s links with professional bodies and external businesses. Our students will benefit from a curriculum that is informed by current and projected trends in the sector, ensuring they are both knowledgeable and equipped with the right skills to adapt to an ever-changing world of work. I very much look forward to the School developing and growing this partnership over the next few years for the benefit of staff, students and the sector.”

Jonathan Harvey, Programme Leader, added, “Having our event tourism marketing management degree programmes co-accredited means that our students leave with not only a University of Suffolk degree, but also a professional qualification which will give them a head-start in their event career.”

“As a university, we are delighted to be a Founding Partner of the Institute of Event Management and to support its development as we champion professionalism in the event industry together.”
