Travelling solo does not mean travelling alone

Travelling solo does not mean travelling alone

Tracey Strand, owner of Tailor and Made Travel, discusses the beauty of travelling solo….doing what you want to do, when you want to do it.

The thought of travelling solo can be daunting, however there are many holiday options open to the solo traveller.

Riviera Travel are known for their huge choice of destinations and holiday types, but they do have a number of exclusive holidays for solos. All their holidays have a tour manager travelling with the group to help ease any anxieties and offer help and advice to ensure you get the best from your holiday.  The holidays include 4 days in Bruges from £499 per person to 16 days in South Africa for £2,999 per person.

There are specialist tour operators, such as Just for You, who offer holidays to all seven continents, but if you do not wish to travel too far for your first adventure and you enjoy walking, then why not try walking in Devon in autumn, a short break from £699 or how about the Camino de Santiago, from £1529 . There are city breaks, touring holidays, river cruises or a relaxing break.

Many solo travellers are not single, but may have different interests to their partner. Companies like GAdventures will match you with a travelling partner to avoid single supplements.  They offer ‘Local Living’ tours where you discover life as it is lived every day, try Italy, San Gimignano, where you can enjoy wine tasting or a cooking class.

A National Geographic Journey takes you deeper into the culture of your destination, why not Explore Costa Rica and visit coffee plantations, see reforestation in action and learn how to make tortilla with a local. Prices for Italy start at £722 per person and for Costa Rica from £1,520 per person (excludes flights from the UK).

Wendy Wu have just launched their first solo traveller tour to Japan, a country that is not easy to navigate alone. ‘The Highlights of Japan’ is a good introduction to this wonderful country and with dates in 2019 and 2020 there is plenty of choice, from £5290.

What are you waiting for? There are a lot of adventures out there waiting for you to discover and enjoy.
