Operation Brock – changes to the M20 start today

National Highways are pleased to say that we have now re-opened Jcts 10a and 11 on the coastbound M20 in Kent.

Subject to traffic conditions we are also looking to re-open the Brock contraflow lanes between J8 and J9 of the M20 overnight tonight. This will mean that tourist and local traffic and non-EU bound freight can once again use the M20 through the contraflow lanes

This will effectively return the contraflow part of what is known as Operation Brock.  Drivers are urged to check the latest traffic website via website (www.trafficengland.com),

The decision was taken in light of the reducing threat of disruption to services across the English Channel and has been endorsed by the Kent Resilience Forum.

National Highways, head of operational integration, Nicky Potts said:

“Operation Brock has given the people of Kent a scalable set of measures that helps them to live, work and travel around the county when there is disruption to services across the English Channel. Scaling it back now is a sensible response to the changing outlook.

and restores capacity on the motorway in time for the weekend. We are grateful to drivers and residents in Kent for their patience during this time.”

Our top priorities are to help people complete their journeys and allow local communities and road users to go about their daily business with minimal disruption.

Operation Brock is one element of a package of measures aimed at helping to improve the resilience of the roads in Kent.

National Highways has worked in close partnership with Kent Police, Kent County Council and the Department for Transport to ensure that each phase of Operation Brock could be deployed sequentially and scaled up or down to meet demand.
