Ufford Park Runner-up in Golf Environment Awards 2018

Ufford Park Hotel is celebrating winning the Runner-up prize in the the Operation Pollinator category at the prestigious Golf Environment Awards 2018.  Ufford Park’s award winning 18-hole golf course was judged on a number of stringent criteria in a tough, competitive field of entries in this highly-acclaimed golfing award.

Ufford Park’s Golf Manager, Michael Halliday explains, “With 4,000 trees on our 120-acre site, various ponds teaming with life, large areas of long rough for butterflies and small mammals, bird boxes, and our 1,000 m2 flower meadow and bee hives, Ufford Park makes the care and management of our environment as important a priority as the rest of the hotel.”

At Ufford Park, the golf course green-keepers minimise chemical use, preferring sustainable or natural methods.  The hotel has also built a reservoir for irrigation, holding 4 million gallons of winter water. Its construction used 14,000 redundant car tyres, covered in soil, to reduce wear and tear, delivered by a local supplier as an eco-friendly alternative to disposing of them.

Michael adds, “We feed our greens solely organic feeds and have moved from 100% meadow grass greens to 85% fine grass greens over the last ten years. Every aspect of the grounds is carefully considered and assessed and we take our social and environmental responsibilities seriously.   Since 2015, we have invested in 48 PV solar panels to heat and light half the complex; LED lights are installed in all public areas and bedroom corridors in the older part of the hotel, and 30 low energy electric heaters. We are thrilled to have been recognised in the industry-renowned Golf Environment Awards 2018.”
