Ipswich Borough Council announces the date for this year’s Christmas lights switch !

Ipswich Borough Council will continue to operate many services over the Christmas period, including HEARS, bin collections, car parks, fitness centres, swimming pools and parks.
HEARS
The Ipswich HEARS service are on duty 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, so there is no change to the service provision over Christmas.

Bin collections
Black bin collections will be one day later between Christmas and New Year, but blue bin collections will run on the same day as normal.
There will be no brown bin collections on or between Monday 25 December – Monday 8 January, with collections resuming from Tuesday 9 January. Don’t forget to leave your real Christmas tree (minus decorations) by your brown bin – we’ll collect it for free.

The Town Hall will be closed from 24 to 26 December and 31 December to 1 January 2024.
Crown Car Park has extended opening hours on Thursday 21 December (8am – 9:30pm) for Festive Thursdays. The car park will close at 6pm on Christmas Eve and will be closed on Christmas Day.
On Boxing Day, it will be open from 8.30am to 10.30pm to for the Ipswich Town home game and open from 8am to 6.30pm on 27 December. The car park will be open from 8.30am to 4pm on New Years Day.

Parks in Ipswich are open every day of the year – unless an icy snap makes the footpaths dangerous. The Reg Driver Centre in Christchurch Park will be closed on 25 December.

Sport and Fitness
Crown Pools will have reduced opening hours on 24 December (8am – 4pm) and will be closed on 25, 26 and 31 December, and on 1 January 2024.
Fore Street Pool will be closed from 24 December to 1 January 2024.
Gainsborough and Whitton Sports Centres have reduced opening hours on 24 December (8.30am – 4pm) and will be closed on 25, 26 and 31 December, and on 1 January 2024.

Ipswich Museum and Ipswich Art Gallery remain closed during refurbishment works.
Christchurch Mansion will be closed from 24 to 27 December, and on 1 January 2024.

Ipswich Cemeteries remain open to visitors, but the Cemetery Office will be closed from 23 to 26 December, plus 30 December and 1 January 2024.
