Topping Out for the first of many at Ravenswood

Handford Homes, Ipswich Borough Council’s house building company, and Gipping Construction are excited to announce the Topping Out of the first of ninety-six new homes being developed at Ravenswood, Ipswich. Ravenswood will see completion of all 96 new homes, built on one of the last sites on the former Ipswich Airport, in early 2025. This Topping Out is an important step in the Council’s continued commitment to provide more homes to the people of Ipswich.

This development sees a mix of houses and flats, designed for sustainability; properties will include solar panels, plentiful open green space, gardens, and ample parking.

The Topping Out ceremony,  a longstanding tradition in the construction industry, signifies the placement of the final structural beam at the highest point of the building, and Handford Homes and Gipping Construction were thrilled to welcome Mayor Lynne Mortimer for this significant occasion.

This event is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the construction, architectural, and engineering teams, and all those involved in bringing Ipswich Borough Council’s vision to life.

Colin Kreidewolf, Chair, Handford Homes, says: “It was great to show the Mayor of Ipswich, Councillor Lynne Mortimer, the progress on such a significant project for Ipswich and to recognise the event. Handford Homes prides itself on developing high quality affordable housing, that meets the needs of the people of Ipswich, whilst protecting our environment and surrounding wildlife”.

Councillor Neil MacDonald, Ipswich Borough Council Leader, says: “Ravenswood is part of a significant Ipswich Borough Council initiative to provide affordable homes. Handford Homes will deliver over 300 properties within the next three years – all of which will contribute to our commitment to the environment and sustainable living”.

Andy Laflin, Managing Director, Gipping Construction, says: “We are working with Handford Homes to construct a housing development that creates a community, and it was great to have the Mayor join us to celebrate this moment”.
