Latest HR masterclass to focus on how to conduct disciplinary and grievance investigations

How to conduct disciplinary and grievance investigations is the subject of the latest in a series of free HR masterclasses taking place next month – something which is crucial employers get right if they are to avoid possible claims for unfair or constructive dismissal.

The three sessions, which are taking place in Norwich, Lowestoft and Bury St Edmunds, are the 11th in a series of masterclasses presented by the HR team at Lovewell Blake.

“Investigating a disciplinary matter or an employee grievance properly is extremely important,” said Vicky Webber, Lovewell Blake’s assistant HR manager, who will present the masterclasses along with colleagues Gemma Chapman and Claire Moore.

“Not only will a robust investigation give the employer a solid foundation on which to take any next steps, but getting it wrong could open up the possibility of serious repercussions. If a disciplinary procedure or dismissal is carried out on the basis of a flawed or incomplete investigation, the employee could use this as a basis for a claim for unfair dismissal.

“Equally, if a staff member feels their grievance such as a complaint of bullying or harassment hasn’t been properly investigated, and subsequently resigns, the possibility of a claim for constructive dismissal may arise.”

The masterclasses will outline the recommended procedures for carrying out such investigations, including considering who should conduct them.

The ‘Disciplinary and Grievance Investigation’ masterclasses take place on Wednesday 13 November at their Bury St Edmunds office. The masterclasses start at 7.45 am, with a buffet breakfast provided. Attendance is free, but places must be reserved in advance. For more details, or to book a place, visit our events page.
