Jim Fennell is one of a growing army of brave souls who quit the bright lights of the big city to pursue a more creative, fulfilling and downright saucy career.
Jim is the culinary might behind, and founder of, The Salubrious Sauce Co, taking his homemade condiment making to a professional level with a range of sauces to accompany family meals.
As one of an increasing number of Suffolk’s artisan food producers making waves well beyond the county line, Salubrious Sauce Co sauces are stocked in many of the best independent delicatessens, butchers and cafes across East Anglia and beyond.
Staying in touch with his customers, Jim is a regular at local markets, events and food festivals. Here he explains how it all started: “I’ve always loved cooking and especially making sauces. My three favourite sauces complement the great British favourites; the cooked breakfast, the Sunday roast and traditional fish & chips. I used to bottle them up and using a handful of homemade labels and give them to friends and family as Christmas presents.”
In 2016, Jim took the plunge and gave up his career in London to focus on turning his homemade sauces into a viable business. As the business grew, Jim became busier and busier and needed to add to his team.
He continues: “I realised I needed a helping hand to grow the business and I wanted to bring in someone who had encouraged me to sell the sauce and believed in the product. I turned to an old friend and great business man, Conrad Whelan. Fortunately, he was as keen as mustard (excuse the pun).
“We’ve kept the integrity and homeliness of the business. All of our sauces are tried and tested amongst our children, extended family and friends, in order to fine tune them before we produce them for our customers to enjoy.”
There are currently four sauces in the Salubrious Sauce Co. range:
Salubrious Sauce Co products can also be bought online.
