Award-winning Mildenhall SME uses grant to cut energy costs

Essential Care (Organics) Ltd are a family-run business based in Mildenhall, that manufactures natural skin care and organic beauty products for sensitive skin under the brand Odylique. All products are hand-made in their Suffolk workshop which ensures the highest level of products quality and freshness. Their commitment to the protecting the environment through their business saw them recognised as Suffolk’s Greenest Small Business in 2012.

Always looking to cut their energy use where they can, they have recently used a grant from the Business Energy Efficiency (BEE) Anglia project to improve their roof insulation and upgrade their current lighting to LED equivalents with PIR sensors.

Abigail Weeds, Director, Odylique, said: “Sustainability is at the core of what we do, it’s one of our key values so booking an energy review with BEE Anglia was an easy decision. The process was simple, BEE Advisor David helped us to complete the form for the grant and identified the carbon savings. I’d definitely recommend BEE Anglia”

Following an independent energy audit, Essential Care (Organics) Ltd were awarded over £3,700. The energy savings gained by implementing this project will amount to 9.7CO2e per year, plus cost savings of over £2,000. This will support future growth within their business, while working to protect our environment in line with their environmental policy.

Cllr. Matthew Hicks, Cabinet Member for Environment and Public Protection, Suffolk County Council, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to support Essential Care to enhance their sustainability – both economically and environmentally via this scheme. The Business Energy Efficiency Anglia project offers all businesses the independent assurance that these savings will really be achieved.”

The BEE Anglia project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund and is being delivered across the region through a partnership of Suffolk County Council, Norfolk County Council, Groundwork and NWES. It has three core offers that have been designed to help businesses reduce carbon and save money using independent advice, funding and recognition for their efforts.
