Popular careers fair returns to Woodbridge

Woodbridge School is hosting its annual careers fair on Saturday November 18 to help young people across Suffolk find out more about their options after school.

There will be around 70 exhibitors including; high profile local and national employers, universities and colleges, apprenticeship providers and representatives from the civil service.

Information, introductions and opportunities

The Woodbridge School Careers Fair was held for the first time last year and attracted over 500 people from across the county. The event helped some young people directly into employment, including Stephen Seabrook, former Kesgrave High School pupil, who landed an apprenticeship with Breheny Civil Engineering after meeting them at the Careers Fair.

Stephen said: “I was really unsure about what to do after GCSEs, so I was encouraged to go along to the Woodbridge School Careers Fair. I met Breheny and they offered me some work experience. I enjoyed it so much that, after completing my first year of A levels, Breheny offered me a full-time apprenticeship. I started in September and I am absolutely loving it!”

Breheny will be among other high profile local employers exhibiting at this year’s Careers Fair, covering a range of professions including law, health, accountancy, architecture, technology, property and construction, public relations and the charitable sector. National employers including BT, EDF Energy and the NHS will also be there to meet with young people, as well as representatives from Suffolk County Council, Suffolk Fire and Rescue, the Army, Royal Navy and Royal Marines. There will also be a range of top universities and colleges, including Cambridge University exhibiting for the first time this year, and local institutions such as the University of Suffolk, and Easton and Otley College.

Helpful Seminars

This year, for the first time, there will be a range of free seminars on topics such as university finance, university interview skills and apprenticeships. Seminars will be held throughout the day in the Seckford Theatre and will be presented by exhibitors at the fair.

Neil Tetley, Headteacher at Woodbridge School, said: “After the fantastic success of last year’s Careers Fair, we are thrilled to host the event again with such an interesting variety of local and national exhibitors. We hope our Careers Fair and our seminars will help young people to make the best decision about their next steps beyond school, as well as provide real opportunities for further education and employment.”

The Woodbridge School Careers Fair will be held in the school’s Sports Dome from 10am to 2pm on Saturday, November 18, which can be reached via Burkitt Road in Woodbridge. The event is free to attend, no registration is required and free parking is available on site. For more information call 01394 615050.
