Runners pound the streets of Cambridge and raise more than £13,000 for EACH

Runners took to the start line and represented East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices at the TTP Cambridge Half Marathon.

23 people flew the flag for Team EACH – setting some impressive times and collectively raising more than £13,000.

Among them was EACH Director of Fundraising Kevin Clements, who recorded a time of 1h 52m, and Trustee Brad McLean, who stopped the clock in 2h 18m.

Brad was interviewed in the build-up to the event, saying he was supporting the charity as a thank you for the help he and wife Debbie received after losing son Stanley when he was just 18 months old, in July 2012.

Also among those taking part was EACH Head of Information Services Mark Crane (1h 47m).

The Cambridge Half Marathon, first run in 2012, is regarded as one of the biggest and most beautiful events of its kind in the UK.

It is one of the county’s biggest mass-participation events and the flat, single-loop course took runners on a scenic tour of the city, passing the Round Church, King’s College, Fitzwilliam Museum and The Backs.

More than 9,000 people took part, with thousands more lining the streets, for the most high-profile event in the city since before the start of lockdown.

EACH Community Fundraising Manager Tina Burdett said: “What an amazing job our team did. It was a fantastic day and all the runners’ hard work, dedication and preparation paid off.

“They posted some amazing times and to raise so much money really was exceptional.

“We’re definitely over £13,000 and still waiting on final donations, so won’t know a final figure until at least the end of the week. It’ll make such a difference in terms of the care and support we offer children, young people and families across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk.

“We’re very grateful to the runners for their fundraising efforts. Hopefully they – and others – will be inspired and motivated to join us again next year.

“Thanks also to our cheer squad of Ella Walston, Emily Rose, Charlotte Griggs, Amy Cudmore and Sue Langley.”

The mission is to travel 100 miles during the month of November.

You can do it anyway you like, walking, running, cycling or something else, either individually, as a family or as part of a team.

The challenge is free to take part in but participants are asked to try and raise £100.

You can sign up by clicking HERE. This takes you straight to a JustGiving page that is already linked to the EACH Mile Counts November Challenge.

Then you can start fundraising but make sure you add your challenge details so everyone knows what challenge you are taking on.

You can track your distance using an app on your phone, smart watch or other device and you could link your Strava app to the JustGiving page, to keep friends and family updated on your progress.
