Meet David Hockley CEO of Fresh Start – New Beginnings
21/02/2018 - Fresh Start New Beginnings
David Hockley took up the reins as CEO of child sexual abuse charity Fresh Start – new beginnings (FSNB), earlier this year from founder, Diana Porter who was recently awarded an MBE for her work with the charity.
David qualified as a social worker over 15 years ago and has valuable experience of working with front line child protection as well as youth offending. David joined FSNB as operations director a year ago and shadowed Diana Porter in preparation for this role. Previously David spent 5 years working as a senior manager for the UK’s largest children’s charity.
Fresh start – new beginnings is the only charity in Suffolk offering therapeutic work with children who have been sexually abused. It’s a small yet positive charity that works with children to help rebuild their futures.
David said; “I am thrilled to take on the challenge of Fresh Start – new beginnings. I have big shoes to fill following in the footsteps of the amazing Diana Porter. The immediate focus is to raise the vital funds to enable FSNB to cover the demands of the growing waiting list and ensure we have enough staff to be able to work with all the referrals coming our way.
Fresh start new beginnings works with children within Suffolk and Norfolk who have been sexually abused. We help rebuild futures by taking away the guilt and the shame an abused child feels. We’re currently working with 200 children and have a waiting list of 50 children. These children need our help to raise the money to cover the cost of the therapy they need to give them a fresh start.”
David is doing the Three Peaks challenge in June with a team of local business people, friends and colleagues to raise money for FSNB. If you would like to join them, contact FSNB here.
