The Dragons are coming to Ipswich
15/02/2018 - Fresh Start New Beginnings
Fresh Start – new beginnings is celebrating Chinese New Year by launching The Fresh Start Charity Dragon Boat Challenge which will take place on Saturday 2nd June at Ipswich Waterfront.
Businesses, clubs and groups can take part in The Charity Dragon Boat challenge. It’s open to 21 teams on a first come first served basis. Each team, or crew, will be made up of 10 paddlers plus a drummer. Squads may be larger – up to 15 people – the crew will race a minimum of three races.
Registration for the event is £30 per person, then it’s hoped that each team will raise around £500 in sponsorship. 10 teams raising £500 will help Fresh Start new beginnings work with two of the children on their waiting list. 20 teams would make that 4 children.
Spectators are welcome and, in between races, Ipswich Haven Marina and AB Ports will be organising lots for the crowds to see and do – including the chance to try Dragon Boat Racing on dry land with a simulator set up. Plus, Classics on the Quay, the ISMOC mini club, will be displaying many local classic minis.
Patsy Johnson-Cisse, fundraiser for FSNB, said: “Dragon Boat Racing is an ancient Chinese tradition and this event is great fun, good for team building, easy to learn and can be a tiny bit competitive.
“We have the EADT and BBC Radio Suffolk on board as media partners we are hoping that they will get a race against each other. We already have teams pledged from AB Ports, Poundgates, Waitrose and John Lewis and a further two teams from Atwells.
What started off as a small Dragon Boat Race has already grown to be what promised a great family day out in support of Fresh Start – new beginnings.”
Fresh Start new beginnings works with children who have disclosed being sexually abused. We work with the children to help take away the blame, the shame and feelings of guilt, helping the child with coping strategies and helping the children to re build their futures.
By signing up your work colleagues, your friends and families or team mates you really can help rebuild a child’s future.
To register a team please email patsy@fsnb.org.uk or call 01473 705111.
