Christies Care in the running for Norfolk Care Award
20/02/2020 - Christies Care
The prestigious Norfolk Care Awards final takes place tonight at Sprowston Manor Hotel, Norwich, with a champagne reception and gala dinner ahead of the award ceremony.
A sumptuous black tie event, care organisations from all over East Anglia will be represented and this year Christies Care are hoping to take home the award for ‘Excellence in Person Centred Care & Support’.
Norfolk Care Awards visited our head office to assess our commitment and value applied to this special category back in November, and we thrilled to learn that we had been selected as finalists in a very tough field of competition.
What exactly is ‘Person Centred Care’? There are so many industry buzz words and jargon that might look like they are out to confuse, but it really is quite simple. We talked to Christies Care Learning Disabilities and Person Centred Support Co-ordinator, Sarah Rampling:
“Person centred care is about making sure that there is a balance between what is important for a person as well as what is important to a person. It means that the person will be included and at the centre of planning their care, as well as including their families or very close friends.
The person will be involved in all aspects of their support package and will be included to make decisions for themselves regarding their own lives. The person will be given information in a way they can understand so they are completely included and can make informed decisions”
Sarah has been at the heart of our Person Centred Care programme and learning for some years. She adds:
“The person themselves and their families are the experts when it comes to knowing the person, so it’s vital to include them to work alongside the professionals to make sure they are getting the best outcome for them and their health while taking into account their quality of life.”
