New Director for Tax at MHA Larking Gowen

Dominic Carter has recently joined MHA Larking Gowen as Tax Director.  Dominic will be heading up the tax team at the Ipswich office, supporting the tax advisory offering across the firm.

Over the past 20 years’ Dominic has worked and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in regional firms in the West Midlands and North-West, with a general practice and auditing background. This was followed by a move into tax, with a focus on tax-efficient company sales.

“I have worked with a wide range of businesses, from sole traders to stock market-quoted companies,” says Dominic Carter, “but my main expertise is in advising owner-managed businesses and their owners on corporate and shareholder tax issues.

“Businesses in this market require holistic advice,” Dominic explains. “By managing uncertainty, addressing the complexities of the tax regime, and ensuring compliance with legislation and accessing available tax reliefs, we allow business owners to get on with what they’re best at.”

He adds, “This is about building relationships of trust. Businesses need to know their tax affairs are being managed, but they don’t need to be bombarded with technicalities.”

In addition to corporate and shareholder taxes, Dominic advises on stamp taxes and is a member of the Stamp Taxes Practitioners Group (STPG), the leading professional forum for stamp taxes, with members drawn from the accountancy, tax, legal and property professions.

“Through the STPG forum we engage with changes in HMRC policy and new interpretations of taxation rules at an early stage in the process,” Dominic explains. “This keeps us on the front foot, which of course is of direct benefit to our clients.”
