IoD and University of Suffolk present January CPD training day

The University of Suffolk, in partnership with Suffolk Chamber of Commerce and other local partner networks recently undertook a survey to ascertain skills gaps in the region. The survey found that the five key training areas identified by respondents are: strategic decision making (52%), managing people (41%), leadership (36%), business marketing (40%) [including social media and LinkedIn (43%)], and search engine optimisation (37%).

To address some of these skill gaps, The Institute of Directors (IoD) has joined forces with the University of Suffolk to deliver a full day of professional development training for business leaders in January 2020.

The New Year is a good time for decision-makers within companies to take stock and consider the challenges ahead. This special event has been designed to cut through the business jargon and provide senior executives with a boost to their skills and understanding, so they can face the next 12 months with confidence.

The full day Continuing Professional Development (CPD) workshop is part of the IoD’s Professional Director Series. It will take place at the University of Suffolk’s Ipswich Waterfront Innovation Centre (IWIC) in Ipswich on Friday, 24 January, 2020.

Senior level

Delegates will be part of a group of leaders from organisations of all shapes and sizes from across the region, giving them the opportunity to connect, share experiences and encourage each other at the most senior level.

The morning session will include two carefully designed courses on ‘Strategic Decision Making’ and ‘Role of the Chair’. The afternoon session will explore the popular courses ‘Risk Management and Value Creation’ and ‘Finance for Business Partnering’.

Simone Robinson, Director, IoD East of England said: “Suffolk has a rich community of directors and this one-day professional development programme is designed to equip these important decision makers with a strategic toolkit to help them hit the ground running in 2020.

“We have opened the session up to non-members with a special rate for University of Suffolk partners and alumni, and we look forward to a productive and inspiring day.”

Comprehensive programme

Debra Gingell, University of Suffolk’s Business Development Manager for CPD, added:  “The University of Suffolk is committed to providing relevant, affordable training for professionals in the region and is currently developing a comprehensive 2020/21 programme of short courses for business professionals.

“Having attended an IoD Professional Director Series myself and witnessed the value the sessions added to business leaders, I am excited to promote this full day workshop at the University of Suffolk”.

IoD members can sign onto the event for £249 + VAT while the price for University of Suffolk Partners and Alumni is £314 + VAT. The price for non-members is £349 + VAT.
