Council to mark National Apprenticeship Week with open day event

Ipswich Borough Council is celebrating its Apprentices with a special event during National Apprenticeship Week 2024 (5 to 11 February).

The Council is inviting people to come and meet their Apprentices and find out more about current opportunities within the local authority at the event at Ipswich Town Hall on Tuesday 6 February 2023 from 3.30 – 6.30pm.

During the event, Council teams will be on hand to explain what apprenticeships are available, how people can apply and what the benefits of completing an Apprenticeship are.

Ipswich Borough Council currently employs around twenty-four apprentices and has been supporting apprenticeships for forty years.

The Council offer a wide range of apprenticeships, including Business Admin, Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrician, HR, Horticulture, ICT, Painting and Decorating, Housing, Waste, Customer Service as well as Sport and Leisure.

Councillor Bryony Rudkin, Ipswich Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Strategy, Culture and Customers, says:

“Apprenticeships with Ipswich Borough Council are a great way to earn while you learn. Our dedicated event during National Apprenticeship Week is a chance to talk to some of our current and past Apprentices face-to-face to learn about apprenticeships with us.

High school, sixth form or college leavers, parents, guardians, support workers, teachers, careers advisors or those looking to retrain in a new career path, are all welcome to attend.”

What some of our Apprentices say…

Sophie Frisby, HR Apprentice, says:   “I wanted to do an Apprenticeship rather than go to university. I combine college work with my role, which really helps bring the theory I am learning to life.

An apprenticeship with Ipswich Borough Council is a really good way to gain experience in a large organisation, whilst working towards a qualification.”

Cory Neasham, Craft Apprentice says:   “I started at the Council in September 2021 as a Craft Apprentice Carpenter. Since then, I have learnt so many skills.

Working with different people and seeing how they do each task differently is really good to see, as it then gives me multiple ways for me to do that task, and a chance to find the most comfortable and productive way for me to get the job done.

I have also worked with other trades, which was important for me, as it develops your general knowledge of the construction industry.”
