Grandfather takes on gruelling ‘Boss Hog’ challenge to honour late granddaughter and raise funds for children’s hospice

Ziggy Nash, a grandfather who recently experienced a tragic loss, is gearing up for a challenging event, The Boss Hog, to raise funds for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH), which provided invaluable support to his family during a difficult time. Ziggy’s granddaughter, Violet-May, sadly passed away at just ten days old due to a severe heart condition, receiving end-of-life care at The Nook, a facility operated by EACH.
For Ziggy and his family, this was an incredibly painful period, but they found solace and assistance at The Nook. Ziggy expressed his gratitude for the unwavering support they received from EACH, describing it as “amazing every step of the way” and emphasising how crucial it was during such a trying time.
Ziggy previously participated in The Piglet Junior Hog fundraiser in July 2022, raising almost £2,000 alongside other family members. Now, he is preparing for an even tougher challenge, The Boss Hog, scheduled for October 8th at Wantisden Hall. Ziggy has assembled a team of 12, including friends and colleagues from Anglian Water and the IMRWR Alliance, who have named themselves Violet-May’s Water Boys.
Ziggy views this as an opportunity to raise more funds and give back to EACH, which holds a special place in their hearts. Despite not considering himself the fittest individual, he has been training for the event, using the Couch to 5k app and feeling progressively stronger. He is excited about the challenge and anticipates having a great time with his team, providing and receiving moral support.
The Boss Hog coincides with Ziggy’s 38th birthday, and it would have been Violet-May’s second birthday on October 7th. Ziggy acknowledges that this will be a unique way to celebrate his birthday, emphasising that the occasion will be different from the typical pub gathering but hopes to enjoy a few pints after completing the challenge.
