Suicide Prevention added to mental health training portfolio
A Suffolk-based, mental health awareness training organisation is adding Suicide First Aid training to its growing development of wellbeing courses.

Training For Life delivers mental health awareness courses across the South-East and has now invested significant time and money into training two senior instructors in suicide awareness and prevention.

The National Centre for Suicide Prevention Training UK is providing train the trainer training across the UK to raise awareness of suicide and increase skills.  The NCSPT’s aim is to increase caregiver knowledge, skills and confidence, while challenging the stigma that can be a barrier to people at risk accessing help and keeping safe.

NCSPT has designed, developed and delivered the National Qualification in Suicide Prevention and is the UK’s only provider, working internationally with City & Guilds International.  At the heart of NCSPT’s work are evidence based, accredited training programmes, that aim to improve the methods used by all multi-sector practitioners, including health, social care and emergency services professionals to support and respond to people at risk of suicide.

“Training instructors in suicide prevention has been a high priority since last year” explained Training For Life’s Managing Director Richard Stewart.  “Not only does this accreditation add to our growing reputation as the region’s fastest growing not-for-profit training organisation, but it adds to our desire to offer a well-rounded approach to mental health awareness training”.

Training For Life will offer the half day (Lite) version of the training and the full day (Understanding Suicide Intervention) version, with the USI training linking to a City & Guilds (Level 4) qualification, if the learner chooses.
