Woodbridge School Open Day

On Saturday 16th September, Woodbridge School is opening the doors to its Annual Whole School Open Day.

Guests visiting the Senior School will be able to take a run down the zip wire, have a go at paint balling, and even indoor bike racing. There will also be keyring making in the design and technology department, sushi making in the languages department, fencing and drama – and these are just a few of the activities available for guests to enjoy on the day.  At The Abbey (prep-school), visiting children will be able to get involved in building and racing a box car, as well as wacky science experiments, bread baking and pottery. Most activities on the day across the whole School are interactive, and designed to enable guests to both get a feel for how subjects are taught, but also to have fun!

The idea of the day is for visitors to have great experiences in each of the School’s departments, to get a feel of the fantastic community that is Woodbridge, and to come away with a clear idea of the School’s vision for its pupils.

So what is at the core of a Woodbridge Education and what makes it different?

The world of work is changing at a fast pace, and the speed of this process is only going to accelerate. Neil Tetley, Headteacher at Woodbridge School, explains what this means for young people today and how his philosophy has evolved to create the kind of education which is preparing pupils to be strong and resilient in a rapidly changing world.

“While academic achievements and results remain important, that may not be enough in the competitive future job market. Therefore, it is vital that young people develop the skills and attributes needed for the modern world. Skills such as creativity, problem solving, leadership and resilience will help to prepare young people for life beyond education. These can be developed through a traditional range of academic and extra-curricular opportunities, but I believe that schools can do more and do better which is why we are adopting a new approach. We are developing these vital characteristics in a much more explicit way, by coaching and mentoring each pupil throughout their life at the school.

“It is our belief that education needs to evolve. At Woodbridge School, we aren’t just ‘doing what we’ve always done’, but adapting while retaining academic rigour to meet the demands that young people will face in 2025, 2030 and beyond.”
