Increased Weekend Disruptions for Suffolk Rail Travellers Heading to London

Train passengers traveling from Suffolk to London on weekends are urged to check their travel plans in advance, as the main line will be closed at Chelmsford due to ongoing construction work. Network Rail is building a new station just north of Chelmsford, causing the line to be closed on most Sundays from now until early November.

This weekend, the closure extends to Saturday, but subsequent closures will only occur on Sundays. During these times, buses will transport passengers from Witham to Ingatestone, where they can continue their journey to London.

Notably, on September 29, more extensive engineering work will require passengers to travel by bus from Witham to Newbury Park Tube Station on the Central Line.

For detailed information about these closures, passengers are encouraged to visit the Greater Anglia website.

Currently, the closures are scheduled until Sunday, November 3, but additional closures may be announced for late autumn. In recent years, there have also been regular line closures between Christmas and New Year to allow engineers extra time for complex projects.

Full details of all the closures can be found on Greater Anglia’s website.
