Anxious Brits plan to invest holiday budget into home improvements

Two thirds of British consumers have advised that they will not travel abroad this summer even if Government guidelines permit, according to new research by external shading experts, Caribbean Blinds.

The research, which questioned 500 respondents on their revised plans for summer 2020, revealed that just 16% would be happy to travel overseas amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, with 62.7% advising they felt ‘too anxious’ to go abroad.

With one fifth [20%] of respondents saving between £3,000 – £5,000 and one third [31.9%] saving in excess of £8,000 due to cancelled trips abroad, Brits are now planning to invest their holiday budget into home improvements.

This, demonstrated by the following statistics:

  • 41.9% of respondents advised they are planning to invest their holiday budget into home improvements, with 18% already in progress.
  • 34.6% of respondents advised they are planning to invest their budget into garden and outdoor living, with 10% opting to upgrade their kitchen.
  • 49.2% of respondents advised that as they are likely to be spending the summer at home, they are planning to upgrade their garden.

This new research coincides with the launch of Caribbean Blinds’ dedicated ‘Holiday at Home’ campaign, which encourages consumers to make the most of the temporary travel ban by creating their very own ‘slice of paradise’ in their garden.

Stuart Dantzic, Managing Director of Caribbean Blinds, explained:

“The COVID-19 pandemic has completely transformed how we live, work and operate in society, with mounting concern as to how and when we will be able to return to some form of normality without causing a second spike in cases. Therefore, it came as no surprise that the majority of consumers feel too anxious about travelling abroad this summer and would opt to invest their holiday budget into home improvements instead.

“We all have those jobs that we want to do, like landscaping the garden, but can never find the time or are able to justify the cost. However, with the UK likely to have to spend the summer at home, this provides the perfect opportunity to invest in upgrading key features, like your garden, without worrying about time, spend or social distancing measures.”

Founded in 1987, Caribbean Blinds is the UK’s leading external shading provider, specialising in stylish patio awnings, external blinds and its award-winning Outdoor Living Pod.

Headquartered in Sudbury, Suffolk, the family-run business is dedicated to helping Brits enjoy their ‘Holiday at Home’ this summer. For more details, visit their website https://www.cbsolarshading.co.uk
