When it comes to team spirit, coffee-brand Paddy & Scott’s continues to deliver the best working experience by giving all its employees the chance to step into their fellow colleagues’ shoes and gain new appreciation and understanding of other areas of the business.
Termed ‘We-Can-Uary’, everyone within the business has been paired up with someone from a different team to spend a day working with that person, to get a view of what happens in other areas of Paddy & Scott’s and create a wider perspective of the brand as a whole.
“The idea behind ‘We-Can-Uary’ was to build on the fantastic work ethic our employees already have and to give them a chance to discover more about Paddy & Scott’s. We have seen team members show great empathy and interest in their colleagues’ day to day roles, and it has strengthened the bond between different teams that may typically not work closely together,” comments Jon Reed, CEO at Paddy & Scott’s.
Swaps have included a barista from Ambition House spending the day helping dispatch customer orders from the warehouse and another shadowing Paddy & Scott’s Operations Director working on system improvements.
Jon adds, “We-Can-Uary allows us to appreciate the many elements that come together to fulfil the same mission; to fuel the ambitions of coffee-growing communities and coffee lovers all over the world. I, myself, spent the day serving coffee as a barista in our cafe in Hadleigh and thoroughly enjoyed being hands-on and interacting with customers face-to-face.”
After being crowned Suffolk Business of the Year in 2022 for its strong values, including staff ethos, Paddy & Scott’s continues to care as much about instilling the brand vibe into its employees, as it does about the quality of the coffee and the service its customers receive. “We care about our staff, our customers and our impact on the environment and will continue to strive to be the best we can be. In-business initiatives such as We-Can-Uary ensure all our staff work together to the same goals” concludes Jon.
Since launching in 2007, Paddy & Scott’s has funded its own farming project in Kenya which supports the local coffee-growing community with jobs, equipment and education. It has also funded over 25,000 school meals for children in coffee growing communities.
