Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines Supports East Suffolk Scout Group in Fundraising Efforts for New Scout Hut

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines has stepped in to assist an East Suffolk scout group in their fundraising campaign for a new scout hut by generously donating a seven-night cruise prize. The proceeds from this prize draw will play a crucial role in reaching their ambitious £400,000 goal to expand the 5th Woodbridge Sea Scouts’ existing hut located in Tide Mill Way. This expansion aims to provide more space and enhanced facilities to accommodate the growing demand in the area.

With a history spanning over 50 years, the 5th Woodbridge Sea Scouts have been instrumental in offering young people opportunities and life skills, including various water activities such as kayaking, canoeing, sailing, power boating, and paddle boarding. Over the past two years, the group has seen a remarkable increase in membership, doubling in size, with a waiting list of over 230 eager young Sea Scouts.

The funds raised through this initiative will not only contribute to additional space and improved changing facilities but will also enable the organization to welcome more young participants, thereby extending the reach of their impactful programs and providing greater opportunities for local children.

Barrie Hayter, Group Scout Leader at 5th Woodbridge Sea Scouts, expressed his gratitude, saying, “We are incredibly thankful to the Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines team for their outstanding generosity and commitment to our local community. Their support brings us closer to empowering more young people with essential life skills. Our fundraising target for our new HQ is ambitious, but with such an incredible prize, we hope this draw will significantly aid us in achieving our goal.”

Thomas Rennesland, Hotel Operations Director at Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, added, “We are thrilled to support the 5th Woodbridge Sea Scouts in their mission to impart valuable life skills and experiences to young people. Our donation of a cruise is a small token of our appreciation for the exceptional work they do within the community. We trust that this contribution will help them reach their goal of expanding their scout hut.”

The seven-night cruise, scheduled to explore Germany and the Lowlands aboard the vessel Bolette, is set to depart in March 2024. The lucky winners will have the opportunity to discover the historic waterways and vibrant cities of Germany and the Netherlands.

The prize draw is scheduled to take place at the 5th Woodbridge Sea Scouts’ quiz night on Saturday, 18th November. Members of the community, local businesses, and scouting supporters are encouraged to participate and contribute to the hut extension project.
