Big Hoot artist celebrates Earth Day with eco owl design

One of the youngest artists taking part in the St Elizabeth Hospice Big Hoot Ipswich 2022 art trail has revealed the name of her eco-themed design on this years’ Earth Day 2022.

Partnering with the region’s largest independent retailer, the East of England Co-op, Ipswich-born Indigo Price, has named her owl, ‘Future Holder’, to reflect its thought-provoking green design. It will be one of 50 individually designed owls appearing across Ipswich this summer to raise money for St Elizabeth Hospice.

Indigo commented: “I have always tried to live a sustainable lifestyle and work with clients who share these ethics, like the East of England Co-op. I really want my design to promote discussion around what the future could look like for our planet, especially for children, and to help encourage sustainable thinking.”

Indigo grew up in central Ipswich and attended Ipswich School on an art scholarship. Creativity runs in the family as Indigo’s Mum, Sarah Baddon Price, is also an artist. Indigo commented: “Mum actually encouraged me to enter my design into the Big Hoot. Having lived near Christchurch Park for much of my life, we are both a little bit obsessed with Mabel, the parks’ famous resident owl, so I had a great time creating an owl of my own.”

For sponsor the East of England Co-op, the future looks bright. Lynn Warner, Engagement Manager at the East of England Co-op, said: “We have struck gold with Indigo. We were lucky enough to have had a sneak peek at the design and are over the moon with Future Holder. It is such an incredibly important topic and Future Holder is in equal parts eye-catching and thought-provoking.”

The East of England Co-op has a history of support for sustainable actions, including its award-winning food waste campaign The Co-op Guide to Dating, where it became the first major retailer to sell food for a nominal price after its best before date. The East of England Co-op is working to become fully carbon neutral by 2030.

The Big Hoot Ipswich 2022 launches on 19th June. Indigo said: “It is incredibly exciting to be a part of this cause and work on my biggest 3D artwork so far. I cannot wait to see it out and about over the summer.”

Earth Day has been running since 1970 and supports the environmental movement across the world.
