“Thought and practice leaders” step up for leading business body

The county’s leading business organisation, Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, has further strengthened its relationship with senior business figures by approving two new board appointments.

Jenny Cousins, the director of the Museum of East Anglian Life (MEAL), based in Stowmarket, has been appointed as a board member of Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, whilst Mike Sorhaindo becomes a board member of Suffolk Chamber in Ipswich – the county body’s local chapter covering the county town.

Jenny has been at MEAL for four years, previously having held a number of positions in prestigious visitor economy attractions, including the Imperial War Museum and English Heritage. She is also a published author having produced Somewhere in England: American Airmen in the Second World War and Science in a Historic House: Presenting Charles Darwin’s work in his home.

Mike has been the centre manager at the highly successful Sailmakers Shopping Centre in Ipswich for nearly a quarter of a century, having already clocked up considerable experience as a store manager of a major UK retailer. He holds a Diploma in The Institute of Shopping Centre Management and NEBOSH and IOSH Health and Safety accreditations.

Jenny Cousins (pictured) said: “I think it’s important that Suffolk’s large tourism and charitable sectors are represented on the Chamber board. I’m also looking forward to connecting with the huge range of initiatives which are in development across the county. Meeting people at Chamber events is always inspiring.”

Mike Sorhaindo added: “I am extremely pleased to have been given the opportunity to be a board member of Suffolk Chamber in Ipswich. The work that they continue to do in supporting the growth and prosperity of Ipswich and Suffolk as a whole is vitally important and I am looking forward in sharing my valuable experience in retail and property management with the wider group and other stakeholders for the greater good.”

Welcoming both appointments, Suffolk Chamber chief executive John Dugmore said: “We’ve pulled two coups off here with such leading thought and practice leaders. Both Jenny and Mike are extremely well respected members of the business community. Their insights will be invaluable in further sharpening our support to businesses across Suffolk and within Ipswich.

“We’re very fortunate to have their active commitment and support and I look forward to working with them over the years ahead.”
