Market leading transport company joins Suffolk Chamber

Felixstowe-based Maritime Transport, one of the largest privately owned multi-modal transport businesses in the UK, has become the latest company to join Suffolk Chamber of Commerce.

John Williams, group managing director of Maritime Transport, and Suffolk Chamber’s chief executive, John Dugmore, met last week to mark the occasion and discuss the value and importance of the company’s membership.

Maritime Transport, from their beginnings as a container transport haulier, has diversified into curtain-sided distribution, warehousing, railports, container storage, container repair and freight management.

With a network of 34 sites spanning the UK and cutting-edge IT systems, the company now has an unrivalled infrastructure in place to deliver consistent, quality logistics solutions to its customers.

John Dugmore said “we are delighted to have one of the most successful businesses in the sector as a member of the largest business organisation in the county.

“Suffolk Chamber has a proud reputation in delivering campaigns that benefit the transport sector and having Maritime Transport on board will give us even greater weight in our A14, A1307 and Suffolk Energy Gateway lobbying.”

John Williams explained the company’s reasons for joining Suffolk Chamber. ”We are delighted to be part of the Chamber, the voice of the business community in Suffolk.

“As a major Felixstowe headquartered transport and logistics company, improvements in Suffolk’s road and rail transport infrastructure are vital to support customer supply chains and our success and we are keen to add our backing to the Chamber’s campaigns and excellent work in this critical area.”

Andrew Harston, chair of Suffolk Chamber’s Transport & Infrastructure Board added “having Maritime Transport as an active member of the Chamber amplifies our campaign voice as we push for comprehensive infrastructure investment in Suffolk. The sheer breadth of Maritime Transport’s knowledge and insights are second to none.”

“We hope even more Suffolk-based transport companies will follow suit and join Suffolk Chamber to help us deliver improvements which directly help their bottom line.”
