Local councils across Suffolk are working in partnership to inspire the public and truly put the county on the map as part of the Tour of Britain’s return in September.
The UK’s leading cycle race will once again visit the picturesque landscapes of Suffolk on Thursday 7 September, with Babergh and Mid-Suffolk serving as its scenic backdrop before the stage finishes on Felixstowe seafront.
Suffolk County Council, East Suffolk Council, Suffolk Growth Partnership and Babergh and Mid Suffolk have all worked together to launch a newly-redesigned Taste of the Tour website, a PDF toolkit, and the return of an interactive bike trail. These facilities and resources are designed to inspire local businesses and captivate cyclists and families.
Initially introduced to coincide with the Tour of Britain’s last visit to the county in 2017, the Bike Trail has undergone a complete transformation. A captivating storybook, featuring the adventures of Speedy and his bicycle friends, has been penned.
Designed as a sticker collection book, ‘Speedy Sprinter and the Big Bike Race’ follows the adventures of Speedy the racing bike and nine other colourful cycling characters. Participants can embark on an exciting journey around Suffolk towns, gathering stickers to complete the story as they follow the trail. They can then send photos of their completed books to be in with the chance of winning a prize.
The official launch of the Bike Trail took place at this year’s Suffolk Show on Wednesday (31 May). Visitors to the show had the opportunity to meet the talented team responsible for bringing this immersive experience to life, as well as interacting with some of the colourful characters from the story.
Karen Chapman, Manager of Suffolk Growth and spokesperson for Taste of the Tour Bike Trail, said: “The arrival of the Tour of Britain is a great opportunity for Suffolk and we are keen to encourage residents and businesses across the County to get involved. We believe that the Bike Trail, with its engaging storybook and sticker collection, will not only amplify the excitement surrounding the Tour of Britain but also encourage families and individuals to explore our beautiful towns.”
The Taste of the Tour Bike Trail promises to be a thrilling adventure for all ages, combining sport, culture, and community engagement. With the support of local authorities and a shared vision for promoting an active and healthy lifestyle, the Bike Trail endeavors to leave a lasting impact on Suffolk and its residents.
