Connectivity plans for Ipswich town centre
1/11/2023 - Ipswich Borough Council
New technology information boards and Augmented Reality trails around Ipswich town centre are being proposed as part of the ‘Digital Ipswich’ plans by the Towns Deal Board.
The project, set to be delivered in partnership with Ipswich Central, will result in a better-connected town centre, making Ipswich an engaging place to visit.
Ipswich Borough Council’s Executive is being asked to approve the plans, allowing the council and Ipswich Central to source new technology, develop augmented reality trails and improve the All About Ipswich website.
Councillor Neil MacDonald, Ipswich Borough Council Leader, says: “Connectivity supports a sense of community. By creating a ‘Digital Ipswich’ we are seeking to establish a well-connected and accessible town centre for people to live, visit, work, and study. In partnership with Ipswich Central, this Towns Deal initiative will use technology to attract more visitors by providing interest and entertainment, so they spend more time in town. Local businesses will also have opportunities to share dynamic information about what’s on, events, and attractions.”
Terry Baxter, Ipswich Central Chair, adds: “The concept will be achieved by working with stakeholders and local organisations to put technology, accessibility, and connectivity at the heart of what we do. Creating a ‘Digital Ipswich’ will transform Ipswich town centre, benefitting business, culture, education, health and our community.”
