Suffolk’s young people’s mental health awareness in safe hands
19/03/2021 - Student Life
Regional mental health organisation Student Life has acted quickly in reestablishing contact with over 40 schools and colleges on their return to classroom learning this month.
“With new challenges, we want to work with each individual setting in the most appropriate way” said the Charity’s Development Manager Louise Richardson. “Some settings have booked us in to deliver our usual face-to-face assemblies (workshops in colleges) when the ‘roadmap’ allows and some have booked a virtual assembly/workshop. We have worked very hard on producing new, bespoke mental health training for years 10 & 11, which will now be offered as part of the RSHE curriculum. This training has been informed by several organisations; including Mental Health First Aid England (MHFAE), Samaritans and the NHS” continued Louise.
The charity is also moving forward with training volunteer Mental Health Ambassadors who are over 16 years old and this training will now take the form of a one day ‘Champion’ course, accredited to MHFAE.
“We are also now back in a position to offer the 2-day MHFAE training to staff and naturally, this process will also assist the setting with complying with government legislation due in 2025” said Louise.
