Over 100 business people took advantage of Suffolk Chamber of Commerce’s latest networking lunch to hear from the chief executive of London’s fastest growing airport – and the benefits it is bringing to the county.
Ken O’Toole of London Stansted showed how since 2012, the airport has boosted annual passenger numbers from 15m to 18m – with Stansted accounting for 40% of the growth recorded by all London airports during that time.
During his speech, Ken highlighted the competitive advantage London Stansted offers airline operators and local travellers as operating costs are 72% and 274% greater at London Gatwick and London Heathrow respectively.
John Dugmore, Suffolk Chamber’s chief executive said: “It was great that so many local businesses were able to hear directly as to the growing success story of ‘our’ international airport. With improved transports link to and from London Stansted, the airport’s considerable growth plans will be a welcome boost to Suffolk and the East of England’s future prosperity.”
The Suffolk Chamber event was held at Trinity Park Ipswich and was sponsored by the Suffolk Childcare Agency (https://www.suffolkcca.co.uk/).
Afterwards, Chamber members attended the business organisation’s annual general meeting where John Dugmore referred to its growing relevance to the county’s business community, its expanding range of services and its ongoing campaigns to secure greater investment in the county’s infrastructure.
