It’s been a record breaking year for Ipswich-based Waller Transport and their expansion and growth shows no signs of letting up. At a time when many businesses are plagued by uncertainty when it comes to trading with Europe, Waller have taken the initiative and are blazing a trail for UK logistics.
In December 2018, Waller Transport – a family company that has been operating in Suffolk for over 45 years – broadened their haulage and logistics operations into Europe having previously focused their attention on the UK haulage market. The move was a considered one that saw a fourth depot added to their group of offices, which now include Ipswich, Liverpool, Hull and Glasgow.
Off the back of 25% revenue growth last year, the transport solutions in and out of Europe that they now offer to their customer base have provided the foundation for further success. So much so, that May 2019 was the company’s best ever month for revenue.
Full service logistics
Behind the success, has been the pioneering approach of Managing Director Darryn Flynn who has sought to ensure each of the four Waller depots develops its own specialisms and strengths, while continuing to demonstrate the ethos and standards established by the Ipswich office. Originally founded by Darryn’s father-in-law Adam Waller in 1974, the Ipswich headquarters continues to underpin the business and was largely responsible for May’s outstanding revenue performance.
Through a carefully executed recruitment strategy, Darryn has assembled teams in all office locations that are really pushing the business forward:
“The teams in our Hull, Liverpool and Glasgow offices have really helped us to shape a business that looks beyond UK road haulage. The guys are driven to provide solutions for customers – no matter what – and fundamentally that is ingrained in our culture as a business. By taking logistics headaches away from our customers, they are earning trust, respect and helping us to develop the business beyond the Ipswich office – which still continues to excel.”
Investing in the future
To supplement the shift in the business from focusing largely on the ‘return loads’ model towards an all-encompassing 4PL approach, Waller are set to invest in a fleet of dedicated vehicles over the coming months. This, alongside recent success stories with air freight projects and potentially tricky out of gauge road haulage have seen the company demonstrate the expertise to support businesses across the UK and Europe with any logistics challenge.
Amid Brexit uncertainty, Waller’s early success in European haulage is hugely encouraging and looks set to become a key service line for the business as they continue to grow over the years ahead.
