Invest in Suffolk Ambassadors’ programme: “2020 will be the best year yet”

An innovative scheme, bringing together some of the most influential Suffolk business people to champion the county, is about to embark on another successful year.

Invest in Suffolk was launched by Suffolk County Council in 2014 to promote the county as a business location and to respond to inward investment enquiries and opportunities.

Working together with Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, Invest in Suffolk has recruited over 100 high profile business leaders and professionals to become Ambassadors. They are willing to use their skills and expertise to positively influence other decision-makers, to ensure Suffolk reaches its potential as a top business location.

The Invest in Suffolk Ambassadors events programme brings together people who are passionate about living and working in Suffolk. Ensuring a balance with the county’s attractive countryside, towns and villages.

Because of its previous positive impact in raising the profile of the county, the two organisations have agreed to expand the number of ambassadors by recruiting an additional number of business people.

Plans are also well advanced for the 2020 programme of events, aimed at bringing Ambassadors and other local business representatives together to hear from a range of speakers, share best practice and keep up-to-date as to the activities of the county’s increasingly diverse business community.

Four events are scheduled, including an MPs’ question time and one on the green agenda and the climate emergency.

In addition, Invest in Suffolk Ambassadors are called on to meet visiting business delegations and attend conferences to explain the ‘Suffolk plc’ message.

Councillor Nick Gowrley, Suffolk County Council’s cabinet member for economic development, housing and enterprise, said: “We are very grateful for the enthusiasm with which businesses have engaged with the ambassador programme, particularly given the challenges and time pressures they face.

“These conversations are important to help highlight Suffolk’s strengths and challenges as well as gaining insight from businesses.  They provide an opportunity to network together sharing areas of common interest to improve outcomes for Suffolk’s people and places. I am excited about seeing the ambassador programme expand this year so we can continue to grow the potential of Suffolk for business.”

John Dugmore, Suffolk Chamber’s chief executive, added: “At Suffolk Chamber we believe that the potential future for the county is one characterised by an innovative, internationally successful and diverse economy, high value and high waged jobs and a strong education sector delivering a skills base that is as good as any in the country.

“The Invest in Suffolk Ambassadors programme plays an important role in making this future a reality. The 2020 programme looks like being the best yet.”
