Fresh Start – New Beginnings (FSNB), is thrilled to announce their Dragon Boat Festival is back for another year – this time bigger and better than ever.
The charity is looking to recruit 20 teams in this year’s event which will take place at the Ipswich waterfront on May 30th.
First launched in 2018, the charity has been amazed by the continuous support from local businesses and community. All will be raising funds and support to help us work with children on our waiting list.
Dragon boat racing is a team sport and each team should consist of ten paddlers, one drummer and an experienced helmsman. Full training will also be provided for each team.
Teams have a minimum of 3 races where they will cover a 200-metre distance. The winning teams will then compete in a final race. Trophies and medals will be presented to the three winning teams.
This family event will also include attractions, arts and craft, competitions, face-painting and much more.
Fresh Start new beginnings currently works with around 200 children and have over 50 children waiting for their service. It costs approximately £2500 to work with one child, events like the Dragon Boat Race Festival help to fund the vital support to children as well as their families.
Hannah Walker from FSNB said, “We are very delighted with the response from the public. People are incredibly keen to enter teams in the Dragon Boat Race. We hope to raise £15,000 in sponsorship on the day. Every £2,500 enables us to take a child through our service and help them to rebuild their future. With the money raised we could take 6 children off of our waiting list and give them access to the support they deserve. The more teams who sign up the more children we can help.”
Paul Ager, ABP Divisional Port Manager – East Coast, added “We are thrilled to be helping this small children’s charity, which is doing extraordinary work locally. Getting involved in the Dragon Boat Race is a fun part of our calendar and our colleagues enjoy taking part and raising funds for this worthy cause. This is the third year of the Dragon Boat Festival and we are looking forward to working with the organisers to make it bigger and better than ever.”
Jo Day, from Team Hudson who came first in 2019 comments “ Raising sponsorship for such a small local charity which makes a huge difference to children’s lives is the icing on the cake. The Dragon boat race has turned into our annual team building event for all our colleagues and families. We have signed up already and are looking forward to retaining our title.”
