Griff Rhys Jones gathering friends AGAIN for superstar comedy show in aid of East Anglia charity

Lee Mack, Al Murray, Angus Deayton and Stephen K Amos were just some of the comedians brought together by Griff Rhys Jones to raise money for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) back in December 2019.

The show, called Happy Christmas Ipswich, at the town’s Regent Theatre, featured a stellar line-up and raised over £70,000 for EACH.

With restrictions now eased and theatres reopened, Griff and his friends will be back again for Happy Christmas Ipswich 2. Sponsored by Birketts, the show will take place on 6th December at Ipswich’s Regent Theatre.

Griff is a keen supporter of EACH, having previously visited The Treehouse in Ipswich, met with families on different occasions and raised thousands of pounds for the charity. The closure of theatres during the pandemic didn’t stop Griff’s fundraising in 2020, which saw him raise an incredible £146,466 for EACH with an inventive online Celebrity Bottom Drawer auction.

Speaking in a personal video announcement of his plans for December, Griff said: “I hope it will make a major contribution to helping EACH during what has been, during lockdown, a very difficult time. We can get together, we can have fun, we can have music, we can have dancing and we can have comedy – and we can have Happy Christmas Ipswich… 2!”

Kevin Clements, EACH Director of Fundraising, said: “In 2019, we had an incredible sell-out and unique evening of hilarious laughs. This year’s line-up will be announced in September and it promises to be an even bigger and better night than before. We’re delighted to say that Birketts have generously agreed to sponsor the event, meaning every penny raised will go directly towards continuing care for local children and young people with life-threatening conditions, and support for their families. We’d urge people to book early-bird discounted tickets as soon as they can, so they don’t miss out on another great night.”

Early-bird tickets start from £35 (inc. booking fee) and go on sale at 10am Friday 20th August from www.ipswichtheatres.co.uk and via www.each.org.uk/griff. You can also call the Regent Box Office on 01473 433100.
